The Canaries with their main-isalnds Teneriffa and Gran Canaria are worth a sailing-vacation all year round. Because of the mild and tropical climate, which means an average temperature of 24°C in the summer- and 20°C in the wintertime, the islands are a perfect sailing area during the whole year and it shows that they are deservedly called "the islands of permanent spring". sailing in this tidal sailing area with the long atlantic weaves has its own special appeal, especially for sportive sailors. Storms are as seldom as calms. Instead most of the time the NE-Passat blows strongly especially in the north and in the western parts of the Canaries.

The average windspeed of the NE-Passat is about 15 - 20 kn which is about 5 to 6 Bft., but this does not include the areas which lie in the sphere of influence of the islands. The Passat-winds are destracted by the high landmasses and are forced throught the passages between the islands. The winds gain strength, usually 10 to 15 kn in addition to the normal windspeed, which means about 3 Bft. Weaves of hights of 6 m are not unusual.

Teneriffa, Fuerteventura and Lanzerote offer beautiful beaches and great opportunities for anchoring. It is worth to visit the marina of Las Palmas in Gran Canaria, which is known as the start of the famous annual ARC. 

Due to the relative short distances between the islands there is much to see and to experience in just one week.
